Dream Syllabus 3: Caring for Creatives
Making the Philippine creative industry a more nurturing place
Welcome to another installment of my Dream Syllabus series, where I ask my friends to put together syllabi of their dream course to teach. Last time, we had two syllabi dedicated to aspects of street culture - skateboarding and… corny pickup lines.
Cultivating Care in the Creative Industry
Instructor: Alexa San Diego - screen and theater actor, model, singer, and host.
Course Description: This mental health exploration course aims to address the unhealthy and even possibly detrimental practices present in the Philippine creative industry. Students who join this course will be given an avenue to process the difficulties of their experience as creative professionals.
Syllabus:
Activity: Collective Venting
A safe space will be provided for students to air out their frustrations with the creative industry. Students will be given time to process how these roadblocks have made them feel.
Activity: Processing
The concerns will be grouped according to their root causes and then tackled. What caused them?
Activity: Moving Forward
Students will brainstorm on concrete ways to actively go against the unhealthy practices of the creative industry. This includes precautions they can promote in the creative scene in order to prevent the continued unhealthy practices.
If you’re interested in submitting your own curated syllabus, feel free to reach out! Would love to hear people’s perspectives and what they would want to learn about.
